As the industry counts the human and financial costs of Hurricane Ian, described as an industry-changing event to rival Andrew in 1992, Intelligent Insurer asked senior leaders what they think the fallout will be.
From the potential collapse of the already struggling Florida market to a need for significant structural change across a global industry under pressure from soaring inflation, the repercussions are expected to be wide-ranging, according to leaders from Swiss Re, Beazley and Hannover Re.
With increasing catastrophe losses comes the inevitable discussion about how much climate change is impacting global weather systems. This has helped push environmental, social and corporate governance issues to the fore making ESG a core requirement for many. However, the taint of “greenwashing” remains pervasive, so we spoke to leaders in this area from AXA XL, Steel City Re and GCY Associates to find out how to achieve better, more robust, outcomes.
