Creating a community and supporting captive careers

Captive insurance is a rapidly growing sector of insurance and it needs to make certain it has the people to meet rising demand and fuel continued growth. That’s why the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) has developed several initiatives, such as its NEXTGen programme.

CICA’s NEXTGen initiative is a driving force providing education and networking opportunities that have created a supportive community for young/new professionals in the captive insurance industry to grow personally and professionally.

Led by CICA’s NEXTGen Committee, the programme uses a multi-pronged approach of developing educational content, hosting networking events and speaking at schools/universities. By sharing a combination of education about the industry and their own personal experiences, NEXTGen members are finding ways to make captive insurance resonate with the next generation.

NEXTGen’s Professional Development Webinar Series consistently receives positive feedback. Participants find the small group sessions engaging, enlightening and fun to attend. The format provides an informal way for young and new professionals to the captives industry to get direct and unfiltered advice from career professionals from all industry sectors.

“The next generation of professionals want to be proud of the work they do and have a strong sense of community,” says NEXTGen committee chair Prabal Lakhanpal. “CICA’s efforts to provide a platform for all stakeholders have been a core tenet of its work and is greatly appreciated by the industry at large.”

Since the inception of NEXTGen, the CICA board of directors has actively supported the committee to ensure the voices of young and new professionals are brought to the planning table to advise CICA on providing the education and networking they seek to advance their careers.

CICA president Dan Towle says he hopes participants in CICA’s NEXTGen programmes will become the industry’s best advocates when it comes to spreading the word about the exciting opportunities it offers.
