FORTY Under 40
Introduction & methodology
Welcome to Captive International’s FORTY under 40 project, the first in what we plan to be an annual look at 40 of the best and brightest people in the world of captives.
“The competition between companies to poach or retain that talent is always fierce.”

In this publication you will find profiles of 40 different captive or captive-related executives aged under 40 who have been nominated for inclusion in a larger list and then selected by an elite panel of judges. Some of the future leaders of the captive insurance industry could well be in our FORTY Under 40 list.
Talent is, in this era of the Great Resignation, a precious thing and the captive insurance industry, as well as the wider insurance industry beyond that, needs to identify, nurture and retain up and coming talent. The leaders of the future can sometimes be right under your nose—and the competition between companies to poach or retain that talent is always fierce.
When we asked the market as a whole to send us their nominations for who they thought should be honoured in the field of captive insurance we hoped for a good number of suggestions. However, we were stunned by the sheer number that came in, which totalled, once duplicate entries had been combined, more than 400 people from all over the world.
From that total we winnowed the entries down into a shortlist of 80, which we sent on to our judging panel, who marked each entry using a scoring sheet that was then returned to Captive International. We collated all the scores to come up with our FORTY Under 40 final list, who you will read about in this publication.
Captive International thanks everyone involved in this project, from the judges to the final 40 nominees to the entire captives industry as a whole. This project could not have succeeded without the flood of names that came in after our appeal to you all. I cannot stress enough the amount of enthusiasm we have seen for this project.
I wrote at the start of this introduction that this is the inaugural edition of FORTY Under 40. We will run this project again at the same time next year and then yearly beyond that, highlighting the 40 most promising and talented names in the captive insurance industry, as nominated by their peers.
Some of those who missed out this year might be in the final 40 next year, along with new names—life being what it is, many in this year’s list will be over 40 next year and no longer eligible.
As you read this publication, please take some time to have a think about who you might want to see in the 2024 edition of FORTY Under 40. Who’s impressing you at the moment? What new concepts or ideas are being suggested by new talent? Keep your eyes open!
