Meet the judges

Nancy Gray, regional managing director–Americas, Aon

Nancy Gray is the regional managing director–Americas for Aon Captive & Insurance Management. She is responsible for Aon’s captive and insurance management operations in the Americas, which includes operations in the US, Bermuda, Cayman, Barbados, and Vancouver. In addition to her management responsibilities, Gray acts as a senior advisor to several large captives as well as assisting new clients in evaluating and implementing captive programs.

Gray has over 30 years of experience in the captive and insurance industry. She joined International Risk Management Group in 1996, which was merged into Aon Insurance Managers in 2001. She assumed the position of executive director in 2005 and her current role in 2009. She previously worked at Ernst & Young, Johnson & Higgins and PwC.

In her 30 years of experience, Gray has developed extensive expertise within the captives industry. As a captive consultant, she provides innovative solutions and ideas for clients looking to establish or expand their existing captives or deal with coverage challenges or regulatory hurdles. Gray has an excellent knowledge of captive regulations across the global domiciles and of compliance issues impacting captive insurance companies.

Gray is a director and past chair and treasurer of the National Risk Retention Association and also serves as a director and officer for a number of captive insurance company clients. Previously, she has served as a director and treasurer of the International Center for Captive Insurance Education and as a director and treasurer of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association.

Lesley Thompson, managing director–Cayman Islands, WTW

Lesley Thompson is the managing director of the Cayman Islands office of WTW. She is a captive insurance professional with over 25 years’ experience in accounting, insurance and structured finance.

As part of WTW’s operations since March 2020, she has extensive knowledge of forming all kinds of captives. Thompson also gives back to the industry and is the current chair of the International Managers Association of Cayman and a lecturer for ICCIE for nine years.

Nicholas J. Hentges, chief executive, Captive Resources

Nick Hentges is the chief executive of Captive Resources. Hentges has an extensive background with insurance company, brokerage and captive consulting and management operations. Early in his career he held several management positions in underwriting and marketing with CIGNA. In 1989, he moved to Kirke-Van Orsdel, a large regional broker that specialised in association programmes, to develop its property and casualty book of business.

In 1993 Hentges joined Captive Resources to develop and manage one heterogeneous and two homogeneous group member-owned captives. He spent 14 years as the business development manager, working with captive executives to build new captives and grow existing captives. He is a member of the management team that acquired the assets of Captive Resources and sister company Kensington Management Group in the Cayman Islands from its publicly held parent company in 2002.

Hentges has used his 26 years of captive experience to help educate corporations on the benefits of pooling their resources and lowering their insurance costs through the formation of member-owned group captive insurance companies. As chief executive of Captive Resources he has oversight responsibility for business development, administration, finance, claims and risk control, travel, and human resources, and focuses on the company’s long-term strategic plans.
