Unsung heroes
Smooth operators
Meet Bermuda’s Unsung Heroes, the people who work behind the scenes and help ensure their businesses operate smoothly and the deals get done.
Bermuda’s Unsung Heroes are nominated by the respondents to the Bermuda:Re+ILS summer survey, as well as our industry contacts. More importantly, they are nominated by their peers and colleagues, the people who see their work every day. These are the people who understand the importance of the work they do in supporting the dealmakers who tend to receive the most recognition.
Re/insurance is a team game, and while the star players, the goal scorers, deserve the respect and adulation they receive, their achievements would never be possible without the hard work of their team-mates. This is the fourth year that Bermuda:Re+ILS has published the Unsung Heroes report, which is about recognising the hard work and input of the teams that allow the star players to shine.
Bermuda’s unsung heroes are involved in a diverse range of roles within the broader re/insurance community. Over the years we have recognised operations executives, analysts and members of IT departments, and it’s been an opportunity to learn more about the many different roles it takes to keep a company functioning properly. These are people who, when the business is operating as it should be, could be forgotten but who, when needed, can be the most important people in a company.
The best models in the world, the best salespeople, and the best underwriters count for nothing if a company’s systems are down. This year we profile seven individuals, asking them about the work they do, the skills needed to excel in their roles and their thoughts about the future of their companies and their industry.
The range of responses makes it clear that it takes many different types of people, with a variety of skills, to deliver re/insurance.
